Is a yamaha r6 a good first bike?

Hi now before you shoot me off for wanting something that powerfull as a first bike please read on, I am 19 years old, i am 5'11'' and weigh 170 pounds, i have recently (about a month ago) finished my msf rider course and got my license, i have also taken an advanced rider course( they went over high speed bike control) i was thinking about an 06 r6 for my first bike. I have about 3 years of experience with a 150cc moped that went about 80mph, and have done 12000 miles on it. So im still a novice but i have a bit of riding experience, The r6 is my uncles and he is selling it to me for $5000. Every one is saying get a 250 rebel or ninja, but they really arn't much of an upgrade from my 150cc and i think that i have developed the basic skills that should keep my alive on the r6. i have ridden it and it seems fairly docile. but i really want the opinion of a seasoned rider who can give me their opinion.
