Why are strong women leaders in America feared by mainstream media?

Is it my imagination that the stronger the women are, the more the media gang up on them? Example- Sarah Palin, Hillary Clinton. I thought only the muslims prefer their docile women to remain in traditional non leader roles, now I can see that this is not their exclusive domain.
