Best breed of chicken for a beginner?

Hey, I am very interested in gettin a few chickens and was wondering what a good breed for a beginner would be? The most docile chickens that lay a good amount of eggs. I know all about feeding, caring, housing and everything, now Im just looking for the right breed. Im in England by the way if that makes a difference. Thanks guys
