Moving to Portland, do I need to talk to landlords in person?

I am moving to Portland in over a year. I have 3 cats and a Siberian Husky, all very docile animals. Will I be able to have much success finding a place before I move? Will many landlords (of the ones that are ok w/ dogs/cats) require seeing the animals in person, first? I am very familiar with my options generally, I just wonder how many would require us being in town. Thank you, in advance.
